Hello, I’m looking at DaCast for a house of worship, and we need the live stream to turn on at a programmed time and turn off at a programmed time. We would like it if we could program the service to turn on the same time and day each week.
Is this possible? We want to set it and leave it, so that the cameras are always on and connected to the streaming server, when the live service starts then the streams begin.
Following what Axel wrote you and about APIs, there are several things you can find on our website:
Don’t hesitate to get back to us if there is still something that could be clarified from those articles!
You have 2 possibilities here :
- You use Dacast API –> You leave the encoder running at all time, and with API calls, you turn the dacast channel ON or OFF at a certain time of the day.
- You use your encoder’s API (if there is any) to automatically turn on the encoder at a certain time of the day. The ON/OFF option on the dacast channel must remain ON at all time for this situation.
I hope this helps out
OK, I’m new to this but …
I can turn the encoder on and off (but as it’s a hardware encoder not on a schedule). If I leave the live channel “on” but don’t send you signal from the encoder, your service informs a viewer the content is offline.
If I turn on the encoder and leave it on, but turn off the live channel in the backend, then the viewer also gets a message that the content is offline. But the connection to DaCast is still good and all that happens to turn the content on and off for a viewer is that I toggle a setting on your server.
So, what I want is to have a scheduled on/off on the backend application while I leave the encoder on.
BTW, the countdown doesn’t work as described. I have to leave the live channel on, and the countdown is nice, but the viewer can still click thru and watch the room. If I turn on the countdown, then toggle the live channel off thinking the channel will turn itself on at zero time, the countdown feature does NOT turn the channel on at zero time and all we get is a message that the content is offline. I still have to manually turn the channel on.
Hey Portland! If I understand well: you are looking for a way to start your encoder on a planned schedule?
From what I know, every encoder must be manually started. I did not find any way to trigger your stream to start at a scheduled time and the best solution we have to offer is our countdown feature.
Do not hesitate to get back here if you find something that might do the trick.
Thanks a lot!
