The HTML5 JWPlayer API asks for a license key, what is this?

NOTE: Following the launch of JW8 in October 2017, self-hosting the player is now only available to Enterprise customers. New Free license customers with accounts created before mid-September 2017 will not have access to self-hosted player files and license key (source here).

If you are an Enterprise customer, you should be able to access your license key in your JW Player account.
In the left-hand navigation menu, under the Players section, click on “Tools”. This is where you will find your license key.

Your license key will be useful to self-host the player.
Below is an example that you will find in your JW Player account :

    Hello,
what if I want to use JW7, as a Free license customers, can I just download it from github and use it or I still need licence key.. also I see that I can download JW8 from github, can I use it without need to subscribe to jwplayer or use of an Enterprise customer account.

Hi Adnane, I hope you are great. So what you would have to do is to ask directly to JW support. Also, note that if you do not use our player, you won’t have support for the player integration, and you won’t have access to the following features: analytics, paywall, security video (referrer and geoblock), splash screen. Let me know if you have any further questions, and I would be happy to assist you. Have a great day. Best
