This guide helps you going through the analytics available for your video content in your DaCast account.
Timezone of the analytics section
Please note that the analytics data is provided in GMT / UTC+0.
Therefore, if you are in a different timezone, you will need to convert the time of your event in UTC to check its analytics results. A good website for that is : https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/converter.html
Reading the Charts
Analytic charts are presented in several areas:
A/ in individual channels/files (Analytics section)
B/ in the Analytics section of your account where you have several categories:
1 – Dashboard
2 – Data Transferred
3 – Hits & Visitors
For each analytic chart, you can easily set up the axis, chart type and data range.
You also have the possibility to export your data as an Excel or CSV report.
It is a global view of the analytics related to your account:
2. Data Transferred
This represents the bandwidth consumption.
You have the possibility to check the bandwidth consumption for all your contents or specific ones:
– Live Stream only
– Video on Demand only
– Package only
You can either see the consumption :
A/ per time
For instance below is a screenshot of the bandwidth consumption of all live channels for the last 3 months.
B/ per country
C/ per content (please note that this is not available when the axis is “All content”).
For Live Channels, VODs, playlist and packages this feature is very useful since it allows you to check which of your video is consuming the most.
For instance below is a screenshot of the bandwidth consumption per live channel for August 2016.
Notice: You may use TABLE to see the exact bandwidth consumption:
You can download your data by clicking on “Export table as” Excel/CVS.
This defines the time frame of your analytics chart. You have several options from the past 8 days to last year or you can select a custom range.
When you change the date range, please make sure to refresh the chart to get your results.
3. Visitors and Hits
This is the basic unit used to count most stats on your DaCast account.
– “Visitors” are every unique viewer that a stream or file gets.
We use the IP address to monitor the unique viewers on your stream. Therefore please note that if a viewer accesses your stream using 2 different IP addresses he will be counted twice.
– “Hits” track every time a file or live channel is accessed. So if a visitor watches the stream, leaves, and then comes back that counts as 2 hits.
Please note that if a video has “autoplay” ON and if you keep loading your page with the player, it might increase the number of hits on your video content.
Visitors and Hits per Time
Presented in minutes, this View Time based on channels, files and packages show the average view time for all of your visitors. For example, if you have 10 visitors on a stream and half of them watch for 60 minutes and the other half watches for 30 minutes, the average time will be 45 minutes.
Visitors and Hits per Country
This data is taken from the number of visitors rather than number of hits. The chart itself shows the most popular areas where your viewers are located, unless their country was unable to be detected (which will show as “unknown country”). To see a more complete readout, click “See Details” to view a complete list.
Hits and Visitors per Content
This feature gives you the ability to track your hits and visitors per video/live channel.
For instance below is a screenshot of hits and visitors per VOD since January 1st of 2016.
Revenue – Pay Per View and Subscription Analytics
Located in a separate tab, data is gathered for all pay per views and subscriptions charged over the system in order to provide a view of information.
Please note that if you need more details on your revenue, including who purchased and their email addresses,
this data can be looked at after clicking in the “BALANCE” section located within your ACCOUNT section.
